Character Information
Name: Sougo Tokiwa
Canon: Kamen Rider: Zi-O
Canon Point: Middle of episode 48, after telling his uncle that he's a Kamen Rider
Age: 19
History: His wiki page
Personality: From a young age Sougo Tokiwa's childhood has been rife with strange occurrences that have shaped him into an equally strange young man. At age eight his parents died in a supposed bus accident, and after he began having strange dreams in which a man told him that one day he could save the world by becoming king. More accurately, this "dream" man with his weird message was the one to cause Sougo's bus to crash in the first place, and put into motion huge future events in Sougo's later life. He had a profound impact on the boy, and from that day forward Sougo became resolute on the idea of becoming king, and not all that shy about expressing this ambition. Never mind, of course, the fact that his own country has an emperor instead, or the fact that he never clarifies what he plans to be the king of exactly.
Regardless of his less than clear direction, the proclamation didn't do a lot to earn him many friends. While his classmates found it fun to joke with the easy-going Sougo about his future goals, they weren't exactly close to the off-beat kid. Always the quirky acquaintance and never the bestie, Sougo has led a pretty lonely life, and spent most of it playing by himself.
He didn't have the chance to make close friends until his later teen years, when a couple of kids his own age came from the future to kill him, but ended up befriending him instead. More on that later on in the personality section, but for now just know that his social isolation has led to some pretty specific and sometimes unique traits in Sougo. For one, he's ready to befriend damn near anyone regardless of their initial response towards him, and what's truly wild is that his steadfast cheerful friendliness actually works for him a good chunk of the time. Sougo has had an unbelievable success rate in converting former enemies into friends. The other habit his friendless upbringing created is less positive, and it is his tendency to not only cover up his loneliness, but to hide the majority of vulnerable feelings. Sougo is naturally a pretty happy guy, but no one is happy all the time. It takes real coaxing from the people that care for him to make him more forthcoming with what he's really feeling when he's hurt.
That said, Sougo is very expressive with most of his emotions, and wears almost all of his other feelings on his sleeve, including anger. The thing about Sougo is that he's not quick to anger, and it does take quite a lot of pushing to get him good and truly mad, but when he does that anger is explosive. A mad Sougo is a Sougo who is likely screaming at the top of his lungs and tossing himself directly into the middle of a fight.
Not that he needs to be angry in order to toss himself into a fight. If he sees anyone in danger, and I do mean anyone, he's quick to jump to their defense. He plays the whole hero shtick incredibly straight with no hint of irony. He's not one for unnecessary fights, however, and prefers to resolve fights by talking them out to avoid anyone getting hurt whenever possible. He's got a big heart and two ears always ready to listen, and while he might not always have the solution to the problem he is still exceptionally good at hearing people out.
His empathetic nature also makes him ridiculously trusting, and that can end up biting him in the ass from time to time. At times it takes a horrific amount of shitty behavior for Sougo to be willing to admit a person isn't worth giving the benefit of the doubt. More than once he's allowed someone to wreck some avoidable havoc because of his desire to believe in people.
Still, even when when suffering the worst betrayals or biggest disappointments, Sougo does a pretty impressive job bouncing back from things. He is still human and does sink into low moments, but overall his emotional resilience is impressive. All it takes is a little support from the people around him for Sougo to get back on his feet. That resilience goes well with his unwavering determination to meet his goals too...
Sometimes.
So those people from the future that I mentioned wanted to kill him? They have a good reason for that. You see, Sougo has the potential to go very, very wrong. In their present (his future) Sougo does manage to become king, but not the kind he dreamed of being when he was young. He gains unbelievable power over the flow of time that he uses to ruthlessly oppress people. Present day Sougo (Sougo from their past) rejects the idea that he will become some kind of tyrant, and even picks literal fights with himself on the occasions that he is dragged into the future and confronted by the not-so-beloved future king. Having outside support from others does drastically change the trajectory of Sougo's life, but that dark potential still lurks somewhere inside him.
Which makes it important to acknowledge some of his less savory attributes. Sougo's ambition is pretty obvious, and while ambition isn't an inherently undesirable trait, it is clear that Sougo's drive to meet his goals can easily be taken too far. He's also not always the best at relying on the support of others. For all that he has seemingly endless amounts of trust for people on some levels, he tends to make decisions on his own without consulting anyone else. This can lead to some big misunderstandings about what he's up to, and frustration with Sougo for taking actions all on his own. In fact, Sougo's intentional failure to fully explain himself to people can veer into manipulative territory, which is rarely well received regardless of how good his goals may be.
Whatever scheme he has in the works is usually clever in some way, though Sougo is foolhardy as often as he is brilliant. In fact, in his day to day life he's probably a little dumber than anything else. He's not unintelligent as a rule, but his actions can be goofy and lacking in basic common sense at times. He's also not exactly some kind of academic genius. He's done his share of exam retakes, though he is at least extremely solid on the subject of history. His attitude is often a little dippy, and the friendliness alone can be extremely disarming. Sougo is also excellent at playing dumber than he is when he wants to avoid a topic for any particular reason.
All in all, Sougo is a good kid at his core, with the drive and desire to help the people around him no matter what their feelings about him might be.
Abilities & Skills: Rider abilities/Kamen Rider armor (nerfed)
Sougo is able to use a high tech belt to magical girl style transform, only his transformation gives him powerful armor that enhances his abilities. He can change aspects of his armor by slotting different "watches" into slots in the "belt buckle".
Time manipulation (nerfed)
Many of his time based abilities he can only use when in his armor, but they include:
- Rewinding short bursts of time
- Seeing short distances into the future
- Prophetic dreams of the future
- Time travel and altering the present/future (usually only when using a time machine)
Fighting
Sougo is proficient in hand-to-hand combat, broadswords, and lightweight firearms.
History buff
Sougo knows a ton of Japanese history. This knowledge is completely useless in a brand new world.
More in-depth on the wiki. Note: Some abilities only apply to a future Sougo, not the one being apped.
Inventory/Companions: The clothing on his back, and his Kamen Rider belt (which will not work).
Choice: Witch
Reason: While Sougo has the ability to transform and does a lot of physical fighting, a good portion of his powers are based in time manipulation. More importantly, it's these time manipulation powers that drive the entire plot of his show, because a future version of himself heavily abuses them to take over the world.
